Founder & Principal
Barb Kren, MBA
Marketing strategist and payments advisor based in Northeast Ohio, serving financial institutions nationwide. More than two decades across marketing strategy for financial institutions, sales leadership, and payments — turning complex topics into clear messaging, member education, and growth plans institutions can act on.
Why Bridge & Rails
Barb launched Bridge & Rails in mid-2026 after transitioning out of a full-time leadership role at Corporate One Federal Credit Union, where she led sales and member success strategy with a focus on immediate and real-time payments expansion. She continues a part-time advisory relationship with Corporate One as one of her active engagements.
Barb's background spans leadership, sales, and advisory roles across financial services — experience she draws on to help institutions think through growth, structure, and strategy as needs arise, alongside her core focus on payments modernization.
Much of that background is marketing strategy for financial institutions: audiences, messaging, campaigns, and the data behind them. Payments work belongs inside that plan, not beside it. New capabilities only pay off when members understand them, so education and adoption are the measure — and that is marketing work as much as payments work.
We are building Bridge & Rails because financial institutions are being asked to navigate two realities at once. Legacy payment methods remain deeply embedded, and the fraud tied to them is difficult, expensive, and disruptive. At the same time, instant payments, new digital capabilities, stablecoins, and other emerging models are changing what consumers and businesses will expect.
The answer is not to chase every new technology — and it is not to assume that familiar payment methods are automatically safer. Institutions need a practical way to think through which rails fit which use cases, what should remain or migrate, how to sequence modernization, how to prepare employees and educate members, and when to bring risk, operations, legal, compliance, and technology specialists to the table.
The name says the work: rails are the payment networks — RTP, FedNow, and what comes next. The bridge is everything that connects those rails to real adoption, clear messaging, and teams ready to deliver.
Behind the move to consulting is a desire to pay it forward: helping financial institutions mitigate fraud, navigate the newest payment rails, and build strategy that intertwines the two — so modernization strengthens trust and resilience, not just speed.
Bridge & Rails is an independent advisory practice. I do not sell payment network access, core processing, or vendor products. I advise, plan, and help execute the strategy, education, and marketing work that makes modernization successful.
Bridge & Rails, LLC is in the process of applying for WBENC certification as a woman-owned business (administered through WBEC ORV), classified under NAICS 541618 with 541613 as a secondary code — which supports supplier diversity programs at larger institutions.
I lead every client relationship and strategy, and I bring in the right specialists, contractors, and resources when an engagement calls for extra capacity, execution support, or subject-matter depth. You get the responsiveness of a solo principal plus the bench strength to deliver the work end-to-end.

Beyond the practice
At home in Northeast Ohio, Barb and her husband Jim share several acres of land — and a wonderful dog named Archie — where gardening is a year-round pursuit. They are active in their parish community at Divine Word.
Barb serves as Board Chair of Joseph House of Cleveland and is co-founder of Eagle Creek Boards LLC, a maker of sustainable, premium hardwood boards and care kits — plastic-free and handcrafted in the USA. At this point in life, the driving motivation is simple: to lift others up and pay it forward. Across all of it, the through-line is purpose-driven work, long-term impact, and building high-performing teams through mentorship and strengths-based leadership.
